Needful Things - Making Images Talk

By Chris
During the classroom exercise, we have to form a group of 2 and create both iconic and indexic representations of an object. Canisius and I decided to draw an Apple iPod. We drew the iPod as the iconic representation and a musical note as the indexic representation. However, Julian suggested that we switched the representations to make it look more suitable.
Here it is:

For Assignment 2, the objective is to develop my skills in controlling visual message. I have to select an object and create a representative image of the object. Then I have to try to distill the image through the process of abstraction. The final symbol must be able to communicate its generic meaning and people should understand it easily.

For me, I chose my handphone as my subject.
1) The first picture shows the original image of my handphone.

2) The carbon copy of my handphone.

3) The first distillation with the alphabets removed.

4) Next the numbers are removed.

5) Then the keypads are removed but I added the "call" and "end call" icons.

6)Finally, I removed the inner frames and enlarged the "call" and "end call" icons, hopefully making it easier to people to understand. Actually, I got the inspiration from Apple's iPhone where all the applications are touch-screen based.

During the critique session, there was not much comments for my drawing so I guess most of the class understand my point of view.
